From The Source, Fernie Museum, November 27 - March 15, 2025

“From The Source” celebrates the landscape of Elk Lakes Provincial Park, the origin of the Elk River as well as painting outdoors directly from nature alongside the comradery of 8 women artists from BC and Alberta. The group met at the Alpine Club of Canada Hut in early September of 2024 and became quickly acquainted while spending the week together hiking, art making, sharing meals, stories, music and laughter in all kinds of weather conditions and environments.  

 

Each Artist will present a selection of plein air sketches and photographs as well as 2-3 larger studio paintings accompanied by personal descriptions. The exhibit will showcase a variety of viewpoints, landscapes and artistic styles unique to each artist inspired by this immersive experience.

 

Participating artists include Laura Nelson (Fernie), Melanie MacVoy (Fernie), Anie Hepher (Fernie) , Anne Aitken Anderson (Jaffray), Valerie Speer (Rosebud, AB), Julia Keenliside (Edmonton, AB) , Christina Olson (Calgary) and Marie-Christine Claveau (Rosswood, BC).A group exhibition featuring studio paintings inspired plein air painting in Elk Lakes Provincial Park.
